- מה זה בעצם לווין תקשורת - בקצרהלוויני התקשורת נמצאים גבוה מעל כדור-הארץ. גובה של 36000 ק"מ מעלינו. הם נעים במהירות כזו שעוקבת אחר מהירות סיבוב כדור-הארץ כך שלצופה על הקרקע הם נראים כנקודה עומדת בשמיים. עומד. נייח. סטציונרי משמעו נייח לא זז. גיאוסטציונרי – נייח מול כדור-הארץמגלל שהם לא זזים הם מצוינים כתחנות ממסר של תקשורת ביו יבשות ובתוך איזורים גדולים על כדור-הארץ. למדינת ישראל הוקצתה הנקודה 4 מעלות מערב מהאפס. נקודת גריניץ' שליד לונדון. שם נמצאים לוויני עמוס-2 ועמוס-3. בעמוס-5 אנחנו למעשה מתרחבים לנקודה חדשה בשמיים – 17 מעלות מזרח.
